Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is haunted by vivid memories and hallucinations of past battles in WWII and his relationship with Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), who he reluctantly killed. He has left the X-Men and exiled himself in the Canadian wilderness. Yukio (Rila Fukushima), a Japanese mutant ninja who can see the future, acting as an emissary locates and convinces Logan to travel with her to Japan. Logan arrives in Japan to pay his respects to a Japanese soldier named Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi), whose life he saved during WWII. There in his house, Logan meets Yashida’s son, Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada), and granddaughter, Mariko (Tao Okamoto). Yashida is dying from cancer and wants Logan to transfer his x-factor healing powers onto him to save his life.
On the planet Krypton, a coup is taking place. The planet’s military commander General Zod (Michael Shannon)is enraged that Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara (Ayalet Zurer) have a newborn named Kal-El. He is Krypton’s first natural birth after centuries of genetic engineering. Krypton is about to explode and Jor-El sends his only son to Earth where he will live as one of them and later be the saviour. A fight ensues between Jor-El and Zod resulting in Jor-El’s death. Zod, including Faora-Ul (Antje Traue), and the rest of his followers are banished to the Phantom Zone for their crimes. Soon Kal-El will grow up to be the legendary Superman and become Earth’s mightiest hero when he defends it against the cunning General Zod.
Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds), who is a test pilot for the United States Air Force is given a cosmic ring of power by a dying Alien named Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison). Abin Sur died in battle against Parallax (voiced by Clancy Brown) an evil entity that gains strength by feeding on the fears of others. Reluctant at first and feeling this situation he has been put in is absurd, Hal Jordan realizes the threat of Parallax is universal and his beautiful girlfriend, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) is in danger.
