Summary
Terminator Salvation begins with a convicted murderer Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) waiting to be executed. Before he is executed a scientist named Dr. Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter) proposes to him to have his body parts donated to research. He accepts the deal and soon after the film shifts to the year 2018. Much of the world is in ruins do to Skynet launching its nuclear attack, which caused a nuclear holocaust. The focus changes to John Connor (Christian Bale) and his resistance forces finding the body of a new model Terminator.
They find the body of Marcus Wright in an underground facility where he has been in a stasis for 15 years as Judgment Day occurred above the bunker. Marcus awakens and is unaware of the events that have transpired during his stasis state. Marcus becomes friends with a teenager Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) and a young mute girl named Star (Jadagrace Berry). They are both part of the human resistance and they help him fight off an attack by one of Skynet’s T-600 series Terminator machines. The resistance discovers a signal that would terminate the machines of Skynet. John Connor offers to test it out. Kyle Reese and Star are captured by one of Skynet’s machines and brought to their headquarters in San Francisco. On the way toward Skynet headquarters Marcus saves a woman named Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood). Following her suggestion Marcus agrees to meet John Connor and they both head to the human resistance base.
John Connor and his resistance who don’t trust Marcus, during their interrogation of him they discover that he is a hybrid, Human/Terminator. Terminator Salvation Movie: The Review
Terminator Salvation is a very well written and produced film. The movie is very respectful to the first two films in the series. It is a welcome addition considering how bad Terminator III: The Rise of the Machines (2003) was. That film was a disgrace to the movie franchise. Terminator Salvation has excellent acting, special effects, and action sequences. It also pays homage to Terminator 2 by including Gun’s ‘N Roses song “You Could Be Mine”, which brought a smile and a little laugh out of me when I first saw Terminator Salvation. The after a holocaust world is brought to screen realistically. It is a visually stunning film with excellent cinematography. The special effects, which I really like, are quite similar to Michael Bay’s Transformers films.
In sound effects, explosions, and action sequences, you could say they ripped those films off. It is a good thing though since they are very well done. The new Skynet machines featured in this film are awesome looking. The HK’s, new Terminators, the hydro bots, and the very awesome looking machines that attack while riding a motorcycle are all very cool and make you worry if machines actually did become self-aware. The atmosphere and landscape of this film is very much like a war themed video game you would play on your Xbox 360 or PS3.
Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, and Moon Bloodgood were the best actors in this film. Moon Bloodgood, who I believe is Asian, is a very beautiful woman. She played her part with good emotion and liveliness.
Anton Yelchin does a good impression of Michael Biehn and even looks somewhat like a younger version of him. Sam Worthington plays his role to a tragic effect. You feel for this guy at the end who gave it his all while getting redemption. The little girl Star played by Jadagrace Berry is very cute, but I found her an unnecessary addition to this film, unless the movie is trying to show the face of human suffering since the girl is mute. Barnes played by Common the Rapper was a surprise to me how well he can act. I don’t listen to rap music, but I respect these artists like Queen Latifah, Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Tupac (Rip), who do a surprisingly good job in their transition to acting. They are very talented people.
T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), face of death is brought back to life with the amazing digital technology of Industrial Light & Magic. It was so cool when he showed up at the end fight. Terminator Salvation is an excellent modern age sequel/reboot done right, with integrity that doesn’t stray from the greatness of the first two films. I compare this film to Christopher Nolan’s Batman films on how cleverly executed and written it is. You won’t get bored watching this fun action packed film. It’s just too bad the third film was such a disappointment.
