The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie is a 1986 slasher horror film, directed by Tobe Hooper. It is the sequel to the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. L.M. Kit Carson wrote the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie. Kit Carson, Yoram Globus, Menahem Golan, and Tobe Hooper produced it. The critics were displeased, because the original 1974 movie had more emphasis on shocking elements, rather than ridiculous black comedy that this sequel had. Summary

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie takes place in 1986, 13 years after the events of the first film. It begins with two drunken rich high school seniors speeding down an abandoned road in Texas. The two kids using their car phone call and harass radio host Vanita ‘Stretch’ Brock (Caroline Williams). She is unable to convince the rowdy duo to hang up. Soon after Leatherface murders the two high school seniors in graphic fashion in the truck he emerges from, while Stretch the DJ records and listens to their screams. Lieutenant “Lefty” Enright (Dennis Hopper), a former Texas Ranger, and uncle of Sally Hardesty and her disabled brother Franklin from the first film. Lefty is obsessed and wants to find the psychotic killers of his niece and nephew.

Lefty who was at grisly crime scene of the two murdered high school kids persuades DJ Stretch to play the recording of the screaming kids being murdered. Unfortunately for Stretch, Lefty wasn’t the only witness to the audio recording and is now being targeted by Chop-Top (Bill Moseley), Leatherface (Bill Johnson) and The Cook Drayton Sawyer (Jim Siedow). After her bizarre and terrifying encounter with Chop-Top and Leatherface at her radio show studio, that leaves her friend L.G. (Lou Perryman) with a torn off faced and incapacitated. She follows Chop-Top and Leatherface who have hauled off with the near death L.G. her friend and co-host to “The Sawyer Clan” hideout. Lefty soon arrives to help her take down the wacky bunch, Chop-Top, Leatherface, and The Cook. So begins a battle for their life as they fight off this crazy inbred family of killers.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Movie: The Review

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie I consider the weakest of the sequels. There is too much emphasis on forced childish type comedy in this one. Apparently Tobe Hooper made this one as a way of making fun of the original. He wanted to exhibit “The Sawyer Clan” in a wilder and more hilarious way. The film did decent at the box office, but it has since become more successful on VHS and DVD.

The most mentally unstable member of the Sawyer clan featured in the film series is known as Chop-Top played by Bill Moseley. I consider him the weak link in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie. He has his moments of good humor and terrifying displays of insanity, but he does some of it in such a forceful type of way that gets old after a while. I much prefer the “Hitchhiker”, who is Chop Top’s twin brother in the first film. I also prefer Alfredo from the third movie and W.E. from the fourth one known as “The Next Generation”.
Leatherface is portrayed in a more disabled low IQ type of way in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie. I found the scene where he is getting horny over Stretch hilarious. He isn’t very scary in this one like in the original. He is pretty much a little child in this sequel. Chop-Top and The Cook bully him a lot in this film. Gunnar Hansen did the best Leatherface version. I didn’t really find anything interesting in the character Lefty played by Dennis Hopper. He really puts a lame effort in this one. Dennis Hopper just wanted an easy paycheck. The chainsaw duel between him and Leatherface in the Sawyer hideout was cool though.

The Cook, Drayton Sawyer, played by Jim Siedow is the best part of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie. The other characters in his family put on an idiotic forceful display of comedy. Jim Siedow was great as the cook in this sequel where his talents are featured more. He does a great job with his mixture of senile and black comedy humor. He has the best lines out of the characters in the film.

Drayton: You coonshits, you fudge packers, you’ll be the death of me yet!
Drayton: You have one choice, boy: sex or the saw. Sex is, well, nobody knows. But the saw, the saw is family.
Drayton: The small businessman… always, always, always gets it in the ass.
Drayton: No secret, it’s the meat. Don’t skimp on the meat. I’ve got a real good eye for prime meat. Runs in the family.
Drayton: It’s a dog eat dog world and from where I sit there just ain’t enough damn dogs!
Drayton: [Hiding under the dinner table while Leatherface and Lefty fight] Maybe its just time to just shut down. Time to shut down the show, yeah. Yeah, pull the plug. Come here, Nubbins!
[Pulls the preserved corpse of the hitchhiker from the original film under the table and searches him]
Drayton: Where… Where’s that f**k you Charlie?
Drayton: Grandpa’s the best, he never misses.

The make-up and special effects done by horror movie special effects legend Tom Savini is excellent. I really like the opening sequence where one of the high school boys, who gets half of his head sawed off by Leatherface, and the blood is squirting all over the place. It’s really cool how he added that sliding effect to part of his head coming off. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie differentiates from the first when it comes to having gore. A lot more gore was in this one. Overall the acting was good in the film, at least with what they had to work with since I consider the script kind of weak. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie had a higher budget, but I think it’s a little bit of a letdown from the first film. I think complacency came into effect when making this sequel. Despite the flaws, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 movie is still a watchable fun horror film, but it just doesn’t have the longevity as the others do when it comes to re-watching it.
