Description
We Are the Night is a 2010 German made Vampire horror film directed by Dennis Gansel. The film is about a young woman named Lena who at the beginning of the film is a pickpocket criminal. She also appears to be a heavy drug user judging from her facial features. She becomes drawn into the world of three vampire females led by Louise who is searching for her long lost love, which happens to be Lena.
Summary
The trio of vampire females arrive in Berlin, Germany after killing all the passengers and crewmembers on a plane. Louise (Nina Hoss) is the leader of the group and the oldest of the three vampires. Charlotte (Jennifer Ulrich) is Louise former love before Lena and she is usually depressed and bitter and has a daughter she hasn’t seen since 1923.
There is also the very cute and spunky Nora (Anna Fischer) of the group. Lena (Karoline Herfurth) is embraced as a Vampire by Louise at the nightclub that the trio of vampire females usually party at during their nightlife. Louise believes Lena is her long lost love of centuries ago. Louise is the lesbian of the group and has no interest in men. At first Lena is reluctant to accept her vampire nightlife with the other girls.
She soon finds herself enjoying the every night partying, flirting with men, killing, and driving fast fancy cars. Lena also falls in love with a young cop named Tom (Max Riemelt) much to Louise dismay. Tom and his partner Lummer (Arved Birnbaum) soon pickup on the girl’s hideout because they never clean up after their killings. It leads to a violent confrontation between Lena and Louise fighting to the death with Louise being killed.
We Are the Night Film: The Review
We Are the Night is not very original since it takes themes from other Vampire films such as The Lost Boys and Near Dark. It is a very enjoyable film to watch, although it does try too hard at times. It has a decent soundtrack also that plays throughout the nightclub scenes. The girl vampires are very beautiful too with the exception of Louise, because she’s just too old for my liking. I especially liked Nora. Anna Fischer who played her did a very good job. Max Riemelt who played Tom looks a lot like Canadian actor Ryan Gosling. The soundtrack was released on CD and was nominated for best film score of 2011 in Germany. I also liked the haunting song played at the very beginning of the film when they show the pictures of the vampire girls. We Are the Night is a pretty decent recent horror flick. It was a commercial failure in the theatres in Germany, but is popular now on DVD.
